Service: General Plumbing
Location: Zillmere, Brisbane
A Zillmere homeowner needed help with a leaking outdoor hose tap at their established townhouse.
The mid-1990s home has two storeys, three bedrooms and one bathroom. While checking the plumbing, we found a second issue beside the toilet.
A sharp kink in the flexi hose was placing strain on one section. Our plumber replaced both outdoor hose taps and installed a new flexi hose beside the toilet during the same visit.
The Leaking Outdoor Tap
Water was leaking from one of the hose taps fitted to the townhouse’s brick exterior.
Even a small tap leak can keep wasting water and leave the wall and ground around the fitting wet.
We turned off the water supply, removed both existing outdoor hose taps and installed two new quarter-turn taps as part of the homeowner’s leaking tap repairs.
A Kinked Flexi Hose Beside the Toilet
While checking the visible flexi hoses around the home, we found a tight kink in the hose beside the toilet.
A flexi hose is the braided hose that connects the toilet to the water supply.
The hose had not burst, but the sharp bend was placing strain on one section and could have caused it to weaken over time.

Replacing the Taps and Flexi Hose
Our plumber:
- Removed both existing outdoor hose taps
- Installed two new quarter-turn taps
- Removed the kinked toilet flexi hose
- Installed a new 450 mm flexi hose
- Checked the other visible flexi hoses
- Found no rust on the other visible hoses
The new hose was installed without the sharp bend found in the old one, completing the required toilet repair work.
Checking the New Connections
Once the new taps and flexi hose were installed, we turned the water supply back on.
The new outdoor taps and the toilet connection were then tested for leaks.

Two Plumbing Problems Dealt With in One Visit
The completed work included:
- Two new outdoor hose taps
- A new 450 mm toilet flexi hose
- Checks of the other visible flexi hoses
- Water turned back on
- New connections tested for leaks
The homeowner’s reported tap problem and the kinked toilet hose were both dealt with during the same visit.
What Could Have Happened?
If the outdoor tap had continued leaking, it could have kept wasting water and leaving the wall and ground around it wet.
If the kinked flexi hose had weakened and started leaking, water may have spread across the bathroom floor before the homeowner noticed it.
Because the townhouse has one bathroom, a leak beside the toilet could also have made an important part of the home difficult to use and damaged nearby flooring.
